Blipstar Mobile is a feature which allows anyone to access your store locator from their mobile device as well as desktops, laptops and netbooks.
Imagine a potential customer is visiting somewhere for the first time and wants to find your nearest store. The customer can (where available and with their consent) automatically determine their location and search for nearby stores. They can use standard search too (e.g. entering an address or placename). Mobile computing is rapidly increasing and it makes sense to tap into the potential this offers.
It's extremely simple. Whenever someone accesses your store locator Blipstar Plus automatically works out what device they are using and uses the appropriate viewer. There are currently three types of viewer:
Some mobile devices (such as the iPhone and many HTC and Samsung devices) have GPS built-in and Blipstar Mobile uses that to work out their position (after asking for permission first of course). It can also use Wi-Fi networks to calculate a position (again, where this technology is available).
The new Blipstar Mobile feature comes as standard as part of all Blipstar accounts.
Nothing! Blipstar Mobile is up and running and doesn't require any action on your part. If you have a specific mobile version of your website then you can add the direct link to your store locator and Blipstar will do the rest (working out the type of device and whether to use the Mobile, Smartphone or Desktop viewer).
If you don't have a Blipstar Plus account yet then see the example page.
If you do have an account, simply log in and go to Preview where you now have the option to see how your store locator will appear on the three viewers. There is also some more information on the Publish page. You could of course visit your unique store locator link using any mobile device and see what happens. If you see any odd or unexpected behaviour then let us know!
